Homemade Cherry Limeade Sorbet:

I’ve been on an ice cream/frozen treat kick lately. Every time I go to the store, some sort of frozen sorbet or ice cream ends up in my cart and I can’t even blame it on the kids! I have to stop, lol! (Mmm… just the thought of the mango sorbet from my Mango Peach Moscato co*cktails is making me wish I had one of those right now!)

The problem I have with some store bought ice cream and sorbets is that they can be full of sugar and additives (which is totally not on my healthy eating plan) or they’re sugar free and the maltitol and other low quality/inexpensive sugar substitutes used in commercial products just make my tummy hurt. (When I make sugar free recipes I use either Stevia or Swerve. Neither one of these sugar substitutes bother me.)

I can’t bring myself to kick the frozen treat habit completely (especially since it is over 100 degrees outside!) so I’m on a mission to make my sweet treats from scratch for the rest of the summer, starting with this Cherry Limeade Sorbet.

The good thing is, it’s actually very easy to make healthier ice cream and sorbets at home. You don’t even need an ice cream machine to do it! Instead, just a good quality blender and a pan to freeze the sorbet in will totally do.

How To Make Sorbet Without An Ice Cream Maker

The best part of this Cherry Limeade Sorbet Recipe? It only requires 4 ingredients (and of course, no ice cream maker!!) In fact, making sorbet without an ice cream maker is incredibly easy…just blend the ingredients and chill them in the freezer! Simple as that.

Make sure to prepare this a few hours before you intend on enjoying it, because it will need to 4 to 6 hours to freeze to the perfect sorbet consistency.

What is the difference between sherbet and sorbet?

The main difference between sherbet and sorbet is that sherbert contains contain. The idea of how to make sorbet is that it contains just fruit and sugar as the main ingredients. You can add other things to sorbet, like a shot of vodka 😉 , but once you add cream or milk, it becomes sherbet. Sorbet is one of the original dairy-free frozen desserts.

What fruit is best for sorbet?

Nearly an fruit can be used to make sorbet. Personally, I love cherry sorbet but it can be made with anything from strawberries to mangoes to peaches.

How to make a sugar free sorbet? (well, no added sugar anyway):

Sugar free sorbet is basically made the same way. If your fruit is super ripe and naturally sweet, you may not even need additional sweetener. The basic sorbet recipe is about 4 cups of sliced fruit, blended in the blender with 1 cup of liquid. Taste and add your preferred sugar substitute if needed. To help create a creamier texture, I like to add 1 to 2 tablespoons of plain gelatin or Vodka to the recipe (depending on who is eating this sorbet, lol.)

One thing I love about this Cherry Limeade Sorbet is that you can control how tart it is by choosing how much lime to add. My little missy actually prefers it a bit more tart than I do, surprisingly!

I used fresh cherries in this recipe but you can sub frozen cherries in this cherry sorbet recipe.
