"A great old school lunch favorite we all just love around our house. If your afraid of using luncheon meat just replace with more hamburger or small cubed pepperoni. Great all ways!"

  1. In the late 60’s my mother scored on the recipe for pizza burgers from my elementary school. It is very similar to this recipe but has sage in lieu of the garlic. I’ve been making it for years for my kids and now my grandchildren. They beg for it. I have made it with bologna, hot dogs, or Spam. Spam seems to be the preferred luncheon meat.

  3. Excellent! I got this from the great lunch ladies at my elementary school in the '80s. I use bologna in mine. I hear tell you can use hot dogs, too! Loved by children everywhere. Great birthday party food for little kids.

  4. I used to eat these all the time when I was in grade school in the 1950s, and loved them. Thanks for the recipe. I can't wait to make a batch again!

  5. Excellent recipe! Instead of spam I used ground up hot dogs or extra ground meat. Plus I toasted the buns or English muffins first then put the stuff on the buns or muffins. I also found it to be easier to added the Ragu sauce to the meat & cheese and mixed it all together, then put everything on the bun. My husband, nieces & nephews LOVED them!!

  1. Sage in lieu of garlic

  2. After the ground beef is done cooking and I have added everything else in (I don’t put in spam), I add the sauce in with the meat & spices mix together and don’t add the any cheese into it. Instead I leave the cheese for the top. And add extra sauce if someone wants extra on individual buns. Same if they would like toppings. ??

I am a 26 year old living in Minnesota with my finance and his beautiful 12 year old daughter. I love to cook and am totally obsessed with finding great recipes. I have a out of control number of cookbooks that I get teased for it all the time. My favorite time to cook and bake is around the holidays with my family and especially with my step daughter. I have had her in the kitchen helping me since she was 4 years old. She basically knows what to do around the kitchen more than me now! She actually teaches my 24 year old sister how to cook. Anyway, I love this site and can't wait to find more perfect recipes by others just like me.<img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/adoptedspring08.jpg">
