FAQs

Why did my mug cake turn out rubbery? ›

A rubbery mug cake is indicative of being overcooked, or incorrect measurements. Please be precise with the measurements and stop cooking once the cake is soft but not wet on the top.

Why did my mug cake fail? ›

You're not separating dry and wet ingredients

It can also change your results. Many mug cake recipes will tell you to mix the dry ingredients — like flour, salt, and cocoa powder — and wet ingredients — like eggs, oil, and milk — in separate bowls before combining the two.

Can I put a mug in the air fryer? ›

Thick, tempered glass is always the best choice because it's durable and specially designed for heat-resistance. If your glass mug or dish has survived in the microwave or oven before, it likely won't break in the air fryer.

Which mode is best for baking cake in microwave? ›

Use Convection mode. When you take the first option, you should bake at 100% power. As you might be knowing, there is no provision of temperature setting in microwave cooking. You just have to adjust the power levels: 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%.

Why does mug cake become hard? ›

Leaving the cake inside the microwave after baking -

Overheating the cake is one of the reasons why your cake turns out to be hard and tight.

Can you eat undercooked mug cake? ›

Let's make this simple: No. Eating uncooked dough or batter can make you severely sick. The primary risk comes from flour. That's right… flour.

What is the shelf life of mug cake? ›

Therefore, there's generally no printed expiry date to consider. However, if for some reason you have leftover mug cake or you want to make it in advance, it can generally stay fresh for up to 2 days at room temperature, and up to a week if refrigerated.

How do you know if your mug cake is done? ›

Touch the centre and if it's firm then your cakes are done. Try not to overcook these or they will go rubbery (the perils of the microwave!)

Are microwave mug cakes safe? ›

Are microwave mug cakes safe to eat? Yes! Mug cakes are completely safe to consume. Just make sure to microwave them long enough for the cake batter to cook completely!

Can you use water instead of milk in mug cake? ›

It is entirely possible to change this recipe to make it without milk. If it is an issue with lactose intolerance or other dietary restrictions, you can use almond milk, cashew milk, or oat milk. An almond cashew blend is my particular favorite. If you'd prefer not to have any milk at all, you can use water instead.

Can you put a Pyrex bowl in the air fryer? ›

Depending upon the sturdiness of the glass dish, you can decide whether Glass Pyrex can be used in an air fryer. If the dish is oven-safe, made of borosilicate or tempered glass, it can work in an air fryer. However, if the dish is made of soda-lime glass, it can't withstand high temperatures in an air fryer.

Is it OK to put plastic bowl in air fryer? ›

Before you even consider putting any dish, plate, or bowl in your air fryer, verify the dish is oven-safe. This will either be marked on the bottom of the dish or on the original packaging for the dishes. Plastic and certain types of glass should never be placed in an air fryer.

Can you boil a cup of water in an air fryer? ›

You should not attempt to boil water in an air fryer, as this can cause water droplets to get into the electric parts, such as the heating element, creating a short circuit and permanently damaging your device and even creating a dangerous fire hazard.

Can I microwave uncooked cake? ›

If the center of the cake is undercooked and you're using a glass or Pyrex baking dish, one idea is to pop the cake in the microwave for a few minutes. Do NOT use the microwave if your cake is in a metal pan. Metal pans should not be used in a microwave.

Can you put a cake pan in the microwave? ›

The cardinal rule of micro-baking is this: NEVER, ever, ever put metal in the microwave. And this means all standard baking trays, cake tins and loaf tins. There will be sparks, things might explode – and your baking will absolutely not turn out ok. So it's worth getting yourself some proper kit.

How to bake a cake without an oven at home? ›

Another way to bake a cake without an oven is to use a slow cooker. Simply mix your cake ingredients and then place them in a slow cooker set to low. Cook for a few hours, or until the cake is cooked through. Again, the exact time will depend on your slow cooker and the ingredients you're using.

Which utensil is used for baking cake in microwave? ›

Use microwave-safe cookware only, which includes microwave-safe glass cake utensil, besides a silicon baking item.
