In the third installment of the prequels Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Lucas brought back actor Temuera Morrison to play some of the Clone Troopers following his performance as Jango Fett in the earlier installment. However, Lucas quickly realized that Morrison was too old for the part and came up with an inventive solution to resolve the issue.

George Lucas Felt Temuera Morrison Was a Bit Too Old for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Temuera Morrison debuted in the Star Wars universe in the role of Jango Fett, a bounty hunter whose genetic sample served as the basis for the Clone Troopers. After playing Fett and other Clone Troopers in Attack of the Clones, Morrison returned for Revenge of the Sith, playing Commander Cody and other clones.

An issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine highlighted Morrison’s role in the third installment, which he shared with younger actor Bodie Taylor. While Morrison played some of the older Clone Troopers, Taylor played the younger ones.

It doesn’t have to look exactly like Temuera because he’s the older guy, and Bodie’s the young guy, and these can be any age in between. If anything, if you do use Temuera, it’d be good to make him a litte bit younger.

Lucas is quoted saying the above words in the magazine’s issue #75, where he explained why the Clone Troopers weren’t identical.

Lucas aimed to resolve the issue by digitally combining the faces of the two actors while also adding that given the time passed between the two installments the clones played by Morrison and Taylor were from different batches. Therefore, while Morrison’s age wasn’t an issue, Lucas used some CGI to make him appear not too old when compared to Taylor’s version of the Clone Troopers.
