Whenever we need a quick and easy side dish to take to a holiday meal we always choose to make fresh green beans in our Instant Pot.

Every time we attend a holiday dinner, there is always plenty to eat. However, most of the side dishes are filled with not so healthy ingredients.

Although we look forward to indulging in a helping of cheesy hash brown casserole, corn casserole, and mashed potatoes, by the end of the meal we begin to regret our choices.

So now we take it upon ourselves to bring a delicious and healthier alternative to the traditional potluck side dishes.

And there is no better way to make fresh green beans than in the Instant Pot.

What is an Instant Pot?

For those that aren’t familiar with the term Instant Pot, let me explain what it is.

An Instant Pot is a multi-cooker. Depending on what type of model that you own, you can use it to cook using a variety of methods.

You can use it to saute, steam, slow cook and even make rice, yogurt and more! However, the most popular function is to use it for pressure cooking.

You can literally make roasts, soups, chicken wings and other delicious meals in a fraction of the time that it takes to make it in a slow cooker or oven.

So why would you want to make green beans in the Instant Pot when it doesn’t take long to boil them on the stove?

Let me explain….

The first reason to make fresh green beans in the instant pot is to conserve space.

When making a large meal for several people, the stove top becomes a busy space.

Therefore, sometimes there isn’t enough room to put a large stockpot full of green beans on the stove.

Secondly, when you are asked to bring a side dish to a family or potluck gathering, it is an unwritten rule that you won’t require the stove top or oven at the host location.

However, there is usually an outlet or two available for those dishes prepared in a slow cooker. Or in this case, an Instant Pot.

And what is the best part about making fresh green beans in the Instant Pot? They are cooked perfectly with just one minute of cooking time!

Of course, that doesn’t include the time that it takes the pot to come to pressure. However, in my 6 quart Instant Pot, it takes approximately 6-7 minutes to come to pressure.

Therefore, from start to finish, your fresh green beans can be cooked and ready to serve in less than 10 minutes!

It takes such little time to make the green beans. I actually make them right before dinner is ready to be served.

This way they are cooked to perfection and they don’t get too limp and soft.

Cooking fresh green beans couldn’t be easier or more delicious than when made in the Instant Pot! A great way to make green beans for a healthy side dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans
  • 1/3 cup chicken stock or vegetable stock
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Wash and trim the ends of the green beans. Add them to the pot of the Instant Pot.
  2. Pour in the stock and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  3. Add the minced garlic and tabs of butter on top of the green beans.
  4. Lock the lid and place the valve in the Sealing position. Pressure Cook/Manual on HIGH pressure for 1 minute.
  5. As soon as the cooking time expires, unplug or cancel the Keep Warm function and Quick Release the pressure.
  6. Open the lid and remove the green beans to a serving bowl. Add additional salt and pepper if desired.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

If using frozen green beans, increase cooking time to 2 minutes.
