Aunt Lou here.

If you have ever heard me talk about my all-time fav crock pot recipe, you know that it is Crock Pot Steak with Gravy. Then while we were on vacation, I decided to try it out with pork…and we loved this Crock Pot Pork Loin with Gravy. You guys seemed to like the recipes as well, so it was only natural that we give Crock Pot Chicken with Gravy a try, right?! And boy was it a hit! (Psst…don’t tell Steak with Gravy, but Chicken with Gravy might be taking over the spot of my all-time fav crock pot recipe! Decisions decisions!)

Ingredients for Crock Pot Chicken with Gravy

  • 2-3lbs boneless, skinless chicken
  • 10.5 oz can cream of chicken soup (if you want to make your own cream soup, check out Cris’ recipe here)
  • .87 oz pkg chicken gravy mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • noodles or rice, optional

How to Make Chicken with Gravy in a Crock Pot

  1. Place your chicken in a 2.5-4 quart slow cooker (I used Mr. Big, my4-quart Crock Pot)
  2. Evenly pour your soup over your chicken
  3. Sprinkle your gravy mix all over
  4. Pour in your water
  5. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours, use a meat thermometer to make sure you chicken reaches safe cooking temperatures, but doesn’t dry out
  6. Serve chicken and gravy over noodles, rice or by themselves

Crock Pot Chicken with Gravy Notes:

  • I made this with boneless, skinless chicken breasts and again with boneless, skinless chicken thighs. Both were delicious! If you are using thighs, it might take a couple more minutes if you trim the fat. If you use breasts, the cooking time will be closer to the 4 hour mark since they are bigger pieces of meat. However, my chicken thighs were perfect right around 3 hours.
  • I know on the pork gravy packets there was a wide variety of sizes, so if your store doesn’t have an .87 oz packages, but has a 1 oz pkg, you’ll be fine.
  • If you need fewer servings, you can make this with only 1 lb of chicken, you will just have lots of extra gravy.
  • As with any of our recipes, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and shouldalways be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

      Hi Bert!

I haven’t tried making this recipe with fresh mushrooms, but think it wouldn’t need extra liquid. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes.

One question I have about these recipes is whether or not you intend for us to add the can of water that you would normally add to the soup, if you were following the instructions on the can. I have guessed not, because like this one it asks for a 1/2 cup of water separately – and we have done the pork version that way and it came out great. However, I just wanted to know for sure 😉 Thanks!

      Hi Sally-
If a soup is used on the site, we will always say “prepared” if we intend on following the can instructions. If it is just listed as an ingredient, it is just the can. Hope that helps!

This is basically how I make my chicken and dumplings (the rolled kind). However, I’m from S. Louisiana, so I have to have diced onions, celery, and chopped garlic in it or I would be excommunicated. Really, what we call the “Trinity” is onions, bell pepper, and celery…garlic is not optional. I also add freshly ground black pepper. Simple comfort food at it’s best! Good share! 🙂

      Hi Bonnie!

Your comment reminded me of Michael’s Aunt T. (who I claim as my own aunt…she’s awesome!) who lives in S. Louisiana. When we visit, she is always cooking and teaching me fun things in the kitchen…and the cooking trinity is a must in her kitchen! Thank you so much for sharing!

I so want to try this. What is 2-3 lb. chicken breasts? There is mom and I but I want to have a few leftovers. I can’t weigh them so would 3 breasts whose weight I don’t know be okay? We have some in the freezer 2 to a package and I would like to use them. Thanks for all the great recipes. I want to use my crockpot more.

      Hi Gail!

I used 3 large chicken breasts and they worked great, so I think you would be good with three! I’m so glad you enjoy the recipes! Thank you for speaking life into my day!

Sounds great. I know this is a stupid question, but I assume the chicken has to be thawed?

      Hi Brian!

I always go by, “better safe than sorry!” You will want to use thawed chicken. I hope you enjoy this as much as we do!
