Recipe by Laura Ritterman Course: SidesCuisine: AmericanDifficulty: Easy

The cardinal ingredient of our Wingstop fries is a potato. So, let’s learn the ropes of prepping the potatoes first.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes, of course. Russet potatoes are a good option. Buy two or a total of 400gm for a serving for two.

  • 1/2 a tablespoon of olive oil. It is healthy. However, if you are drawn to some other oil, feel free to use it.

  • Salt (1/8 tsp or as per your liking).

  • Wingstop Fries Seasoning (my version)
  • 1 tablespoon 1 of Granular Sugar

  • 1/2Tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 of Black Pepper

  • Paprika 1/2 tsp

  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 Chilli Powder (For those looking for a spicier hit)

  • 1/4tspof Garlic Powder

  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 of Salt

Directions

  • Start by rinsing the potatoes well. Pat it dry using a paper towel next.
  • Using a sharp knife, chop off the tip of the potato. Ensure that your potato can stand vertical and not roll over the place.
  • Be very heedful in this stage. Your knife skills are about to be tested. Use a sharp knife and slice it from top to bottom vertically. Check for the thickness of the slices. If you want them leaner, slice the potato thinner. Usually, 4-5 slices are good enough.
  • When using your knife, you can stop before hitting bottom. This makes slicing easy for newbies. However, if you are slicing your potatoes till the very end, ensure that you hold them well.
  • Time to switch to our second part of the slicing job. Separate the potato in two halves, at-least 2-3 layers per half. Pop down your split potato such that the potato faces down, and the skin is up.
  • Fries are nothing but thin strips. So, use your knife again and slice the sliced wedges in thinner strips by keeping your potato faced down.

Notes

  • To accompany these fries we highly recommend wingstop ranch, which also goes down well with their famous lemon pepper wings

Tips & Tricks

Speaking of making fries, there’s a couple of processes that are widely known. For instance, you must slow-cook the potato strips in low heat first and then pop into a hot wok of oil or fryer. Since we are in for a healthier cooking alternative, a deep fryer or wok is out of the question. Time is also a constraint. Why work hard and spend hours cooking fries when you can binge-watch Netflix and enjoy your tasty fries.

Let’s start with the cooking process.

Spread the potato strips on a tray and drizzle a little olive oil and a pinch of salt. Mix well!

What’s next? Well, pop your greased potatoes in the air fryer. Your job is done!

Cooking these fries for about 20-25 minutes at 400 is good enough. Keep the fries in the air fryer for a tad bit longer if the potatoes aren’t thoroughly cooked.

What’s my pick when choosing an air fryer?

Frankly, I have a few favorites, however, what I love using is my ‘Digital XL’ air fryer (5.8qt) by Simple Living Products. Since I love my food to be crunchy, this air fryer has been my go-to kitchen tool.

The size of the fryer is a little too big, taking up a nice portion of my kitchen space. Do you know what the perk is? I can get a whole pound of potato chips or Wingstop fries in a single go.

Don’t worry if you are using a different air fryer. There’s just one simple step of caution you must follow.

Keep an eye on your fries. Different models and air fryers have diverse cooking times. Keep checking your fries. You want golden and crispy fries, not awful, bitter burnt ones.

Air fryer Substitutes?

Here’s an alternative cooking method that’s even simpler. Pre-heat your oven first.

I suggest using a grated sheet or a wire rack. Wondering why? Well, you can throw in your fries, set the temperature, keep a check on your cooking time, and forget about it. There’s absolutely no need to flip and toss the fries to prevent burning.

Increase the temperature of the 450F and allow your fries to bake for at-least 15-20 minutes. As always mentioned, it is crucial to keep an eye on the cooking time. If the potato strips are slightly thicker and longer, it might need an extra few minutes in the oven.

Final Thoughts

Overcooking the potatoes will not necessarily ruin the fries. What might be a total waste is burning them instead of making the potatoes super-crunchy.

This is perfect if you’re wondering what seasoning goes on wingstop fries – I’m spilling the beans on my secret recipe.

Why do I call it my secret? Well, I love experimenting with flavors. I have tried my hands multiple times in coming up with a mix that’s just perfect for these crunchy Wingstop fries. This is the best flavor combo I have come up with. Don’t shy away from using sugar if that’s not a significant problem. The flavor from the seasoning multiplies when sugar is added.

Take a bowl and pop in these dry ingredients. Give them a good mix. Strain the piping hot fries out of your oven or air fryer and add them in the mixing bowl. Toss the cooked Wingstop fries in the bowl along with the spice mix. Ensure that the fries are well coated in this amazingly delectable seasoning. That’s all my friends! These crunchy and super delicious Wingstop fries are ready to be savored.

Eggs in beer –My healthy treat gives you the joy of munching on Wingstop fries that’s just 1/3rd the calories and 1/4th the fat. So, the going is no longer tough.

Eat these delicious treats without worrying about piling on the pounds. For that we always have wingstop cheese fries, which are also one of my favorites. 🙂
